VICTORIA + SIMON

Miskin Manor, Wales.

Simon + Vix are good friends of ours.  So, when Simon asked me to shoot their wedding, I jumped at the chance.  Even though he told me to scotch-guard my entire body and all my camera gear for a guaranteed South-Wales-in-January drenching.

Luckily, the rain was patchy, and we even got smatterings of sunlight through the clouds at points.  Not that we needed such luxuries though – the day was brilliant and everyone had a blast, me included.  It was hilarious observing (+ recording..) my best buddies’ progression through the day.

Si/Vix – I hope the images bring back some great memories for you.  Thanks for having me shoot them.

PS – note Pagey’s legendary Chair Dance.  It really warranted a post of its own.  May it be a warning to all of you never to leave a dance floor (or chair) unattended whilst he is around…

ART = NATURE + NURTURE

On Monday, we have our 22-week scan.  Fingers crossed all will be OK.  In a pre-emptive strike, though, my angelic little niece Chloe gave us a hand-crafted card today.  This adds further value to what we believe to be the finest collection of Art on the planet…with masterpieces by all four of our nieces (and a couple from the old master -Alex- thrown in for good measure).

I can’t remember the last time I drew a picture.  I was rubbish at it when I was Chloe’s age (still am), and school did naff all to nurture what creativity I demonstrated.  Sure, it does great things to teach you to comply, fit in, follow rules, listen to authority and pass tests, but nothing for truly harnessing creativity + art in their purest forms.

So I guess it’s up to parents to carry the can to cultivate the creative compulsions we’re born with.  I’m grateful my folks did for me.

VICTORIA

Miskin Manor, Wales.  Welcome home Si + Vix, I’ll have more ready for you in a week or two.

HAITI

UPDATE: massive thanks to Petra + Phil who won my print auction – raising £137/$222 for Save The Children.  Thanks also to everyone who made the bidding tough – including Ray + Charlotte, Mark + Lou, Joe, Mary + Paul, Lorna + Rob  and Kieran + Vix.

I’m auctioning an extremely rare 18″x12″ exhibition-quality print of the Church of the Good Shepherd, New Zealand, for Save the Children’s Haiti Appeal.  This is one of our favourite images from last year’s trip, featuring the church against a back-drop of the Milky Way and two other orbiting galaxies.  It is a Lambda C-Type Print printed on Fuji Crystal Archive Paper.  Currently only one other copy of this print exists.

Got kids?  This would make a great reward for their hard work at school!  100% of proceeds go to the charity to help provide medical attention and clean water.

BRYONY + STEWART

Bryony + Stew got married just before Christmas at the Church of St Lawrence Jewry in Gresham Street, followed by a reception at the almost ancient (deep breath) Livery Hall of the Worshipful Company of Stationers and Newspaper Makers.  Better known as Stationer’s Hall, est. in the year 1403.

Being a cold and dark winter’s day, and the fact there was a wedding to enjoy, we didn’t spend long shooting portraits, but that didn’t stop us from having a little bit of fun at the nearby St Paul’s Cathedral :O)  No photo permit meant our mission would be fraught with perilous permit police, but I think we got some good frames for the album before we got turfed out on our ears!  The rewards are there for the fearless.

Bry + Stew – I loved shooting for you guys, you were brilliant fun.  And special thanks to my assistant for the day, Beth, who did a great job for me.
